Ellen's Dance Dares

I spoke with my daughter and we decided it would be an awesome idea to participate in Ellen’s Dance Dare. I love Ellen soooo much. I have been trying to be on that show forever! So I thought this might be the way to do it.

Once we decided we would start dance daring people, we had to come up with places to do it. I had to bring my daughter to Doc Braces and we agreed this would be a good place to start. I waited until the perfect moment when the orthodontics assistant was getting the impression for the retainer and then I went in for the kill. It felt like forever and I thought I was rocking it! As it turns out I was not! The video is ridiculous...I am ridiculous! After it was done I asked the dental assistant if she watched Ellen. She said she did sometimes. I then asked if she knew what the Ellen Dance Dare was, she did not but felt like since I brought it up, I should follow through  with an explanation. I said that it’s when you dance up on someone in secret. She laughed and asked if I was going to do that to her, to which I replied already did J As we were at the reception getting ready to leave my daughter noticed that Jesse J was there ( the K 94.5  FM radio host) and told me to dance behind her. I was nervous as everyone in the waiting room could see me except for her. I did it!  There was a bit of laughter. Jesse J did not catch me...but did look annoyed. I kind of wonder what she thought I was doing behind her haha. After that I took my daughter to Michaels Craft store where she did some dance dares and then the mall. Where we both got in on the dance action.

The thing that I really took from this experience though is how much my moves resemble Monica’s from FRIENDS..this is not good! I mean I knew I wasn’t great at busting a move but...man...I’m pitiful at TRYING to bust a move! Not cool.

Anyway we had to go back to Doc Braces that evening to pick up the new retainer (quick work guys) and my daughter decided it was her time to shine...however every time she tried to get her dance on behind the new (to us) orthodontic assistant she kept turning around. I knew something was up, so when we got in her office I said “You know!” She did, and at that moment she started laughing and our assistant from earlier stepped in and said she told her. I asked who else she has told and the answer as you can guess was everyone!  She said she thought it was sooo funny that I danced behind her while she was stirring up the impression mixture and she hadn’t noticed. I started to laugh as well, because that’s not when it happened. She was stunned and asked that I post the video on the DocBraces website. I did and there has been a happy response from the assistants and the Doc’s there. Turns out they have even discussed my moves in their meeting. Dear God! I really now wish I had though this through, maybe practiced my moves a little so that when the Dr. Comments and thanks me for sharing “my secret moves” I don’t cringe. Too Late!

A Not So Typical Day at Daycare

The morning started off relatively normal...I wish it had continued that way L

The children began arriving promptly at 7:30am. God I hate morning lol especially after Daylight Savings Time. Ugghhh...Anyway the children arrived we had a dance party in the living room while waiting for the last few to show up. Played a little and onward to snack time which takes place at 9am. The children started snack and I got a whiff of something not so pleasant. Off I took Gerty for a diaper change. I should preface by saying this is not the first diaper I have changed. I sat her on the change table and that was just too much for her little diaper. Out the sides it came! As I striped her pants off it moved down her leg and onto the sock she is grabbing for...needless to say the child needed a bath in baby wipes ;(

Once that was done we headed down stairs to the children’s play room, living space, and bathroom.  Here is where the real fun starts! Mildred (yes I run a daycare in the 50’s...okay I changed their names, wouldn’t want them feeling too guilty when they’re older ;) has decided  that today is the perfect day for tantrum after tantrum. For Mildred this consists of hitting other little people and throwing her whole body back and smashing her little head off of whatever. In order to stop her I put her in the excersaucer where she immediately smashes her face off one of the connected toys. This causes her lip to start bleeding (just a little).  While all of this is happening I had asked Winnie to go use the potty. Big mistake! Once I finished helping Mildred calm down and stop the bleeding I ran in to check on Winnie who had ripped up all the new labels I made for all our craft items, calendar items ect. (I was attempting to become a more organized person after having bought the Better Homes and Gardens special organizing edition magazine, as you can see this is not working for me) Ahhhh!!!! While Winnie is cleaning her mess, I hear the TV. I did not turn the TV on...I leave the bathroom to go to the living room to find Rufus playing with all the buttons.  I help him turn the TV off and go to lift him away from the TV when he in turn throws his body back and hits his cheek on my thumb nail...go figure! (Seriously has that ever happened to anyone!?!)  Ahhhh.  All of this by 11:14 am. I will also let you in of the fact that during this process I burnt lunch.

THANK GOD FOR NAP TIME! Ha! If only that went as planned, it didn’t.  Everyone but Winnie went straight to sleep so Winnie decided to wake them all up!

I am so glad the day is over...and as I was recounting my day to the parents I couldn’t help but break out into laughter, with that being said, is it Friday yet?

Just an FYI for those of you who don’t know me I love the children in my care, and this is not a typical day at Daycare!

I am not Martha Stewart

It has been brought to my attention recently that I AM NOT MARTHA STEWART! Who knew...after all I love cooking and am amazing at it ( in my head, in real life I am forever burning things as I feel they should cook quicker) I love house cleaning...I say this as I can see the laundry pilling up and all I can think of is buying some new clothes so I can put it off a while longer. And my crafting skills...well let me tell you are ...getting there. This is true I love Scrapbooking and card making though have not found the time or motivation to do it, as I am too busy bitching about how The Bachelor has still not gotten rid of Courtney’s sorry ass, and reading the  People I want to Punch in the Throat blog. Legitimate reasons if you’re asking me.
This being said my family was in town last week to “help” as I have been feeling under the weather for quite some time.  Last week we lived off of frozen pizza’s (I buy them in bulk. OMG I love Costco!) and other frozen entrees. I am sure the whole family was impressed by my skills in the kitchen as one by one I attempted to burn our meals, and my new home to the ground.  My Foster daughter so politely mentioned that she did not live with Martha Stewart. I am hoping it has not taken her this long to figure this out...but for anyone who didn’t know the secret is out. I AM NOT MARTHA STEWART.  My grandmother who was here pointed out that I still have a sign in my room back home (hand made by myself I might add) that says exactly that J
To be honest I don’t know how people who work find the time to prepare a healthy homemade meal each evening. I for one am exhausted and just want to eat cake. Who doesn’t love cake? Did I mention I can bake? This is a true story I love baking, everything I bake is rich and wonderful and my waist hates me for it. So I stay out of the kitchen as much as possible after work, and clean on the weekends. (Well I have every intention of cleaning on the weekends, but there is just sooo much to catch up on, on my PVR)
In short for those of you who thought I was the next best thing...I am. I am just not Martha Stewart.

The Bachelor...A 2 hour Escape from my life...?

I’m not sure how many viewers The Bachelor brings in each year however I know that each season I swear up and down that I won’t be one of them!... Again...and as you can guess this year I am back in front of my TV (during nap time...I can’t stay up that late anymore) wondering  who’s  gonna “win” the bachelor.
First off the idea of the show is completely ridiculous to me. A group of supposedly “smart” woman put their lives on hold to fall in love, on their first ever date with a man they have never met so at the end of the 3 months or so they can give up their lives and move away for a happily ever after marriage that I am sure will last forever.(Right?)
The whole idea behind getting to go away and share your days with a group of women sitting around talking about your feelings (gag) for the same man after going on what is obviously a “down to earth date” (as Ben said on the last episode, after picking a woman up in a helicopter and flying her away for a picnic in the middle of nowhere) over wine...is definitely my idea of a good time. To top it off, everyone on the show seems to be  unemployed for the duration...with no day to day hassles from the real world (i.e.: bills, family, work ,ect) and gets to travel to exotic locations, and have once in a lifetime (as they say each episode) experiences.  I could fall in love with that for sure! Who needs the Bachelor?
I think a good show would be The Bachelor...Times are Tough Edition. Why not see if all these same women would come out for this show. I think we should put them in a cramped apartment, and have them do low income dates...let’s have Ben in a crappy house with a kid or two and see how they deal with that. Then they could add some unexpected bills into the mix let’s say the purchase of a new roof...to spice things up. Now if you could get through a few months of that you can “win” the Bachelor.  They could even make a “reality” version where the bachelor would have to date old school/ find a girl in a bar/ or on Lava Life.  Now that would be “reality TV”.  As opposed to flying all over the fucking place.
Until then though I will continue watching the show and wasting 2 hours of my life each week shaking my head. Please don’t judge J

Tipping at Tim Hortons an Adventure with Nanny

While driving back from the hospital, we decided grabbing a Tim’s coffee was a good idea. After much discussion with my Nanny who is driving we decide there is no need to go in to the building, we can just go through the drive thru...to save time of course....Well not only did it not save time but once they finally got our order right ( 1 Medium double double, 1 LG Ice Cap, and 1 Medium Tea...I can see how they would have trouble with that :l ) we advanced to the next window to pay. Sounds simple enough...right? No. My Nanny who is in the driver’s seat pays the lady, takes her change back and starts to look through it. This takes a few moments and there is a line behind us going to the street. I assume this is because she is going to tip the lady at the window. She’s not...and as we are starting to pull away...
I say “Oh I thought you were going to tip her...?”
Nanny who has decided to brake because we need to talk about this while still in the line up, as we have not pulled far enough away so that the car behind us can get they’re order, nor are we close enough to the pick up window to see the clerk anymore says “Are you suppose to tip at Tim Hortons?”
I say “I think so...I typically do, but you’re holding up the line, lets go.”
Nanny “Well no Amanda, not if we’re suppose to tip her.” So on the 4 way lights go as Nanny has decided to back up...you can well imagine we can not back up! So she rolls her window back down so she can signal to the cars behind us that they NEED to back up.
We finally after what I’m sure was a good 3 minutes...but felt like forever, were able to get close enough to the window that we can just barely get the back of the our car window to the end of the pick up window where both parties: My nanny and the clerk are reaching their necks out to talk.
Nanny has a Looney and would like to change it for four quarters. The clerk is clearly annoyed and hands Nanny the 4 quarters. Nanny puts 50cents in the dash and goes to hand 50 cents back to the clerk, but realizes that this is a collectors quarter with some Olympic on it. So she hands her one quarter and apologises for not having tipped earlier while explaining that  she didn’t know she needed to...and proceeds to drive away.
Me “Seriously, we just backed everyone in the drive thru up so that you could tip her 25cents!!!!”
Nanny “What? I gave her 50 cents.”
Me “No, you didn’t you just kept the collectors quarter.”
Nanny “OMG, should I go back?”
My cousin who has been sitting in the back seat the whole time laughing her ass off spits some of her drink out while trying to say “God No!”
I don’t think I will be going back to that Tim Hortons location again!

Being Mandy

At the end of last year I started following a blogger after reading about "The Elf on the Shelf" I loved it! Which got me to thinking this could be a lot of fun! A little about me before I start getting all ridiculous, I work with children all day, have a 15 year old, and my Grandmother is my best friend, (don't tell anyone) and the source of a great deal of entertainment...there are many stories to come :)
